Who should attend

Anyone who fits abrasive wheels to work equipment or uses work equipment fitted with abrasive wheels should take this course to comply with the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations, 1998, and the Heath and Safety at Work Act, 1974.

Course aims

This is a CITB accredited 1/2 day course covering all aspects of the use and fitting of abrasive wheels.

Course Objectives:

Upon completion of the course the learners will know:

  • How to act in accordance with safe working procedures.
  • How to use the abrasive wheel equipment correctly.
  • Awareness of their responsibilities, dangers, and hazards when working with abrasive wheel equipment.

  • Employer’s and employee’s legal responsibilities
  • Hazards arising from the use of abrasive wheels
  • Methods of marking abrasive wheels
  • Methods of storage, handling and transportation
  • Testing and inspection
  • Methods of mounting on equipment
  • Method of dressing wheels
  • Compounds used in manufacture
  • Accident statistics

Certification: Learners will take a short written test, and receive a course handout summarizing the topics covered. Successful candidates will receive a training certificate and photo ID card.

NB: Learners must supply their own Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for this course.
