Who should attend
Anyone who operates any type of Mobile Elevated Work Platform (MEWP), such as scissor lifts, boom lifts, or trailer mounted or vehicle mounted boom lifts, should take this course to comply with the duties placed upon employers and employees by law. The International Powered Access Federation licence is recognised all over the world, and can be endorsed with different categories of MEWP.
Course aims
The course aims to ensure learners are aware how to operate any type of Mobile Elevated Work Platform (MEWP)
Course Objectives:
The IPAF Powered Access Licence is internationally recognised as the foremost qualification for the operation of powered access platforms (MEWPS). This course covers the most common categories which are 3a and 3b (Scissor Lifts and Boom Lifts). If only one category is required there is a cost reduction of £40.00
Course Outline:
This course is the course approved by IPAF, who are the main international body governing access platform operations. Topics covered include:
- Employer’s and employee’s legal responsibilities
- Different categories of MEWPs
- Main structural parts of MEWPs
- Pre-use inspections
- Testing and inspection
- Safe operating methods
- Practical training
Certification: Learners will take a written test and a practical assessment. Successful delegates will receive a digital certificate and the IPAF Powered Access Licence available on the ePal app, showing the categories on which they have been trained. The licence is internationally accepted.
PAL Cards are now digital:
From 1st June 2021 onwards IPAF has launched the ePAL app. The IPAF ePAL app is the new digital wallet to hold IPAF PAL Cards and other IPAF qualifications. Digital licences are now the default option for new operators. Details of how to download the ePAL app on your phone are sent with the course joining instructions.
ePAL replaces the need for paper and plastic documents and licences, conveniently bringing them together in one place. Operators’ qualifications and experience can easily be recorded, stored, and shared. Although the default option is a digital licence, a printed PAL Card and certificate is still available at an additional charge.

The prices detailed are for the completion of 2 categories, if only 1 category is required there will be a reduction in cost of £40.00 from the listed price, if 3 categories are required there will be an increase of £60.00 from the listed price.
