As the newly introduced official TM apprenticeship begins to pick up some traction, already some myths surrounding the scheme are beginning to emerge, the following is designed to dispel any myths and hopefully provide as much transparency as possible in relation to the mechanics of the scheme and the options available to TM contractors through the UK, that we are currently aware of.
- The apprenticeship scheme is NOT designed with a view to abolish the current mandatory NHSS12 training, this is in fact to be included as part of the apprenticeship scheme.
- The scheme is open to all levels of TM Operatives irrespective of age and experience.
- The scheme takes up to 18 months to complete from start to finish.
- The apprenticeship provider, training provider and EPA (End Point Assessment) provider can be chosen by the TM Contractor entering into the apprenticeship scheme and are NOT dictated by the apprenticeship provider.
- The apprenticeship scheme is not associated with Lantra or the current National Highways sector scheme committees and they have had no involvement in the management of the scheme, all queries should be directed to the approved apprenticeship providers.
- More information on the standards and expectations is available on the IfATE website or by clicking the following link: https://www.instituteforapprenticeships.org/apprenticeship-standards/lead-traffic-management-operative-v1-1
